WE'RE IN BUSINESS TO HELP BUSINESS

Business Hunter is the largest regional peak business group in Australia, representing members across all business and industry sectors. Business Hunter is a not-for-profit member organisation dedicated to promoting the interests of business and connecting people in business with what they need to succeed.

The knowledge of local

We have been the voice of business in the Hunter since 1886. Our members are part of a network of more than 3,700 members and affiliates across the region. The network includes members of 20 aligned local chambers across 10 local government areas, stretching from the Mid North Coast to Lake Macquarie and inland to Scone. From main-street retailers to ASX 100 corporates, our member businesses power Australia's strongest regional economy.

The strength of network

Business Hunter members benefit from our strategic affiliations with Business NSW and My Business, which extend our reach and enhance the range of services we can offer. Together with our partners, we can provide members with access to first-rate advice and services and the resources of an effective policy and advocacy team recognised across NSW and Australia as the best in the business.

The value of members

Through this network, we can offer a range of membership levels to suit all business needs. Businesses can choose the ease of a membership package with in-built member privileges, or the flexibility of free membership with access to add-on products and services that can be purchased as required.

Our Hunter First member network is the pre-eminent group for leading businesses in the Hunter, offering exclusive networking opportunities. Hunter First businesses have a significant presence, interest or stake in the region and support Business Hunter's strong regional advocacy.

There can be no doubt that it will do good; and the amount of that good depends entirely on ourselves.

Mr R B Wallace, Founding Chamber President at the first AGM.

HISTORY

Business Hunter traces its beginnings back to 1886, when a group of business people met at Newcastle’s Great Northern Hotel to establish a Chamber of Commerce.

Among the members were Frederic Ash, whose landmark buildings in the CBD are still used today, coal baron John Brown and William Arnott, whose biscuit business became national icon.

The name Business Hunter was adopted in February 2020 to better reflect the vibrant and diverse businesses the organisation represents. The new name also aligns with our affiliates Business NSW and My Business.

Business Hunter has been through a number of name changes; what has never changed is our commitment to helping our members do business better, to drive growth and prosperity in the Hunter region.
